Social
Services
At Mark Twain Manor, the resident's
social and emotional needs are always
in consideration. The Social Service
Department provides several services
to assure that these needs are met.
We go far beyond admissions and discharges.
Our staff provides counseling with the
family and resident on a variety of
topics. We realize how difficult it
is to deal with placement, financial
decisions, advanced directives, health
conditions, and future goals. Assistance
is also provided in working with financial
resources such as Medicare and Medicaid.
In addition to participating in the
care plan meeting, we work with the
resident in reaching the individualized
goals and resolving concerns of the
resident or family.
We serve as a liaison between the resident,
the resident's family, and community
to assure that the resident's rights
are always upheld. You can be assured
that our residents and their families
are always treated with respect and
kindness.
Assistance is also provided in working
with financial resources such as Medicare
and Medicaid.
Rehabilitation
At Mark Twain Manor, we provide a complete
approach to rehabilitation. The individualized
program is developed by a registered
physical, occupational, or speech therapist
in conjunction with the resident's physician.
As a skilled nursing facility, we can
provide these services, which are usually
reimbursed by Medicare Part A, Medicare
Part B or a private insurance source
if the resident has coverage.
The physical therapists assist residents
in improving strength, endurance, and
ambulatory skills. In addition, the
physical therapist performs hydrotherapy,
in conjunction with nursing and dietary,
to provide a team approach to wound
care.
The occupational therapist assist residents
in regaining skills in activities of
daily living, such as dressing, personal
hygiene, or feeding skills. The therapists
often use adaptive equipment in working
with the residents, and the residents
keep this equipment to use in their
day-to-day activities.
The speech therapist assists residents
in regaining language and swallowing
skills.
All three therapies work hand-in-hand
to provide a thorough approach to greater
independence. In addition, all three
therapies participate in planning to
assure continuity of care among all
departments.
Once a resident reaches the goals established
by the therapists, specially trained
restorative aids continue to work with
the resident to maintain the highest
level of functioning.
The goal of the facility is to ensure
greater independence and to return home
when possible.
